An Inside Look on GRIT 3.0

On May 17, 2024, the GRIT (Generating Results, Initiating Transformation) Student Research Colloquium was held at the QNHS Senior High School Building, bringing together students from various academic strands to present their research.

Among the featured presentations was the qualitative study by John Cedric Caña, Emmanuel Andrei Pelobello, Liam Thaddea Paglicawan, Jamaer Amulong, Agnes Ladera, and Kathryn Albuñan of Grade 11 HUMSS Aphrodite. Their research, “Occupying the Niche: Perception of Transgenders Towards Transgender Pageantry as a Tool for Empowerment and Inclusivity,” explored the role of transgender pageantry in fostering self-expression, confidence, and social acceptance.

During their presentation, the group shared with the research panel composed of Sir Econ Condes, Ronald Abesamis, and Sir Abraham Sanchez the key findings and narratives from transgender individuals, emphasizing how pageantry serves as more than just a competition. Their study highlighted the significance of representation and how these platforms provide a sense of belonging for many in the transgender community. The presenters delivered their discussion in a clear and engaging manner, allowing the audience to gain deeper insight into the subject. Their research encouraged reflection on the importance of inclusivity and the broader impact of social perception on gender identity.

As representatives of Grade 11 HUMSS Aphrodite, the group demonstrated the power of research in addressing real-world issues. Their participation in the GRIT Colloquium not only showcased their academic skills but also underscored the relevance of their study in today’s society. The event, which serves as a platform for student-led research across different strands, became an avenue for meaningful discussions beyond traditional academic topics. 

The group also extends their sincerest gratitude to their Practical Research 1 adviser Ma’am Bernadette Condes who have helped the researchers from research writing up until the research presentation.
